There are certainly not a great deal of us in New Zealand. The first
Artus members to come out to New Zealand were my father Michael Artus with
his parents Stanley and Beatrice Artus, in 1954. They came from Jersey,
where they had been living since the end of the Second World War.
Before then, they had lived in Gloucester, where both my Grandparents were
born.
It appears that the Artus family in England originated in the Gloucestershire
area. For a long time they were associated with the parish of Minsterworth
just outside Gloucester, and the earliest references to the name Artus
I have found in England come from nearbye Cheltenham. Not that it is very
early, for the Artus name only makes its debut appearance in England in
the early 1700's. It is therefore highly probable that any person living
in England with the surname Artus is in some way related.
